Erling Haaland close to Manchester City transfer

    May 10, 2022

Premier League leaders Manchester City are inching closer to bringing Dortmund and Norwegian striker Erling Haaland to England. Several reports say that a deal could be finalized before the end of the week.

Pep Guardiola has been insistent on getting a striker since the last summer, chasing Spurs striker Harry Kane who Daniel Levy, the Tottenham Chairman, did not release.

The Citizens were without an outright striker, with Gabriel Jesus the only striking option they had. However, with Haaland, Manchester City has agreed to a £63m transfer fee.

Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola was in charge of negotiations until his death last week, but associates have now taken over the deal.

While Manchester City hasn’t officially confirmed the deal yet, going for Haaland is an easier task as compared to Harry Kane, who still has two years left on his contract.

Haaland has scored 92 league goals in 121 total appearances across three clubs, Molde in Norway, Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, and Dortmund in Germany.

In 2021, he became the youngest player to reach 20 Champions League goals.

Manchester City are three wins away from the 2021/2022 Premier League title after getting three points clear of Liverpool at the weekend with a 5-0 win over Newcastle United.

Raheem Sterling scored a brace, while Rodri, Phil Foden, and Aymeric Laporte were also on target in the huge victory.

This was after Liverpool had drawn 1-1 with Tottenham on Saturday, with Luiz Diaz equalizing after Son Heung Min’s opener.

Manchester City will play Wolves on Wednesday before facing West Ham and Aston Villa on the deadline day.

City top with 86 points from 35 games while Liverpool has 83 from the same number of games in second.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday in the Premier League, Liverpool will face Aston Villa, while Wednesday’s fixtures will see Leeds host Chelsea while Leicester City will welcome relegated Norwich City, while Watford will face Everton.
