DFB Pokal: Dortmund seals 2-0 win over Hannover as Bellingham stars

    October 20, 2022

Dortmund secured safe passage to the round of 16 following an inspired 2-0 win 9ver Hannover 96 on Wednesday night.

The Black and Yellow side were aiming to return to winning ways following a poor run of form with just two wins from their eight previous outings.

Tonight’s performance was precisely what they needed to make a perfect statement considering the poor outing they had at Union Berlin last weekend.

Dortmund opened the scoring in the 11th minute through an own goal after a brilliant strike from teenager Youssoufa Moukoko ricocheting off Bright Arrey- Mbi.

The Host turned the heat on their visitors as they created chances of their own and should have drawn level with Dortmund goalkeeper Kobel forced to make vital saves in the space of two minutes (30th and 32nd)  with Hannover kept at bay by Dortmund.

The second half resumed as Hannover picked it up where they left off as Hendrick Weydandt was presented with a golden opportunity to make it 1-1, only for the forward to shoot wide off in front of the goal.

Manager Edin Terzic looked to his bench and made a call to four first-team players in a bid to protect his side’s lead. Amongst the substitute was Gio Reyna, who is returning from injury, and youngster Jude Bellingham who made an instant impact dictating the tempo of play from the middle of the park as he eventually won his side a penalty after being brought down by Phil Neumann for him to cooly convert the spot kick.

Dortmund was later reduced to ten men as Karim Adeyemi was given his marching orders after being booked for a tactical foul, denying a goalscoring opportunity.

Bundesliga action resumes at the weekend as Dortmund welcomes Stuttgart.
