Coppa Italia: Arkadiusz Milik hits hattrick as Juventus trash Frosinone

    January 12, 2024

On Thursday night, Juventus qualified for the semifinals of the Coppa Italia in style as they spanked Frosinone 4-0 at the Juventus stadium.

The Turin giants have been in great form, and they showed their supremacy again as Arkadiusz Milik netted a hattrick before the acrobatic Kenan Yildiz volley in the encounter.

With this win, Max Allegri’s men have booked a last-8 clash against Lazio. The Biancolesti got the semifinals ticket at the expense of city rival AS Roma courtesy of a 1-0 on Wednesday night.

Frosinone had recorded an upset in Round 16 by beating Napoli 4-0 but has never been able to defeat Juventus. This means their search for a win against the Turin side continues as they couldn’t spoil the party for Max Allegri, who recorded his 400th official match on the Juventus bench in two different spells.

Juventus were awarded a penalty in the opening minutes when Fabio Miretti ran into the box between three Frosinone players. Two of them attempted and failed to get the ball, sandwiching him for a spot-kick that Milik converted.

In search of an equalizer, Frosinone poured forward but was caught out on the counter by an inspired Milik. The Polish striker began the move from inside his own half, leading to goal number two for the host. He released a long cross-field pass to Weston McKennie, then sprinted forward to meet the return pass at the back post with a chest and half-volley through Michele Cerofolini’s legs.

Juventus continued from where they stopped after the restart, as deflection made the McKennie shot tricky for Cerofolini.

Milik eventually got his hattrick. Manuel Locatelli, whose high press had caught Luca Garritano napping on a poor Cerofolini pass, laid the pass for the Polish striker, who made no mistake with a good execution.

He equaled the feat of  Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero, who scored a Coppa Italia hat-trick in January 2006 against Fiorentina.

Milik thought he had scored a fourth goal in 57 minutes when he redirected a wayward Miretti effort from the edge of the box, but it was ruled offside by VAR.

Juventus would later get a fourth by Kenan Yildiz with an acrobatic volley at the far post on another McKennie assist from the right.

Juventus had another chance to add to their tally, but a blazing run from midfield by Cambiaso saw him unleash a scorcher to sting Cerofolini’s gloves.

The visitors almost had a consolation goal as a cross came to Garritano, who struggled to get it under control and then ballooned it over.
