Celtic Wants to Reinforce their Offense with Two Free Agents

    August 7, 2020

Celtic seeks to maintain its dominance of the Scottish Premiership and achieve its 10th consecutive title.

To maintain his sovereignty, coach Neil Lennon is interested in reinforcing his offense with free agents Steven Fletcher and Lyle Taylor.

In an interview with Sky Sports News, the Celtic boss confirmed that they have already had some conversations with the representatives of Steven Fletcher, who currently has no team after rejecting a new contract with Sheffield Wednesday. Fletcher participated in 30 games with the Owls and scored 13 goals last season, being the team’s best scorer. Sheffield manager Garry Monk wanted to keep Fletcher on his lines and had opened negotiations with the player to ensure his continuity before the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, they weren’t able to reach an agreement.

Lennon did not elaborate on how advanced the negotiations are, but he did indicate that the club is analyzing several players in addition to Fletcher.

Everything seems to indicate that Lyle Taylor is another option that Celtic is discussing. The 30-year-old forward rejected a short-term contract with Charlton, the team with which he had 22 appearances and scored 11 goals last season. Charlton coach Lee Bowyer acknowledged Taylor’s great contribution to the club in a message on the team’s website: “He gives everything for the club every time he pulled on the shirt and has been an important part of the team my time here.”

Taylor was also on the Rangers’ shortlist, but the Gers lost interest after signing Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten.
