Brighton boss Graham Potter comes in support of Manchester United talisman Cristiano Ronaldo after his dry goalscoring run

Manchester United are going through a rough season where things are unfortunately not going their way. Ahead of their Premier League midweek encounter against Brighton and Hove Albion. Graham Potter has come up to support Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese sensation is not having the best of his seasons but Potter feels that it is not always about a single man in football.

Ronaldo is yet to open his account in 2022, he has not even got an assist. The veteran is on a six game goalless drought but Brighton head coach piled up the praise for the 37-year-old forward. He feels that it is too often that we highlight individuals forgetting it is a team sport.

“You run out of superlatives in terms of what he’s achieved in his career and the player that he is. He’s had an absolutely amazing career, world-class. Out-of-this-world class. There’s nothing else to say over that. Too often we zoom into individuals and forget that it’s a team game. Sometimes when the team isn’t scoring the person at the front of the pitch gets the zooming in and we’ve had it ourselves with Neal [Maupay] for example.”

Potter points out what Ronaldo brings to the table even at this age with his movement and that immediately elevates the team to the next level.

“From what I’ve seen, you still see the quality he has and the quality he brings to the group and the team. I have never played against him, we’re looking forward to going there and pitting our wits against one of the best players of all-time,” Potter added.

While he is nowhere near his goalscoring best, Ronaldo still stands as United’s highest goalscorer with 14 goals from 26 appearances this season across all competitions.

Manchester United’s interim boss Ralf Rangnick also admitted that Ronaldo should be scoring more goals. But he soon also criticised the rest of the team for not doing enough. He points out how the Red Devils simply don’t score enough goals to secure desired results.

Manchester United are out of the FA Cup after getting knocked out by Middlesborough on penalties. Other than that they have also drawn against Burnley and Southampton in their last two Premier League fixtures with similar 1-1 scorelines. Rangnick’s men will have to shake off the disappointments as they face Brighton this midweek before gearing up for the big clash against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League knockout stage.
