    Brazil World Cup Qualifiers

Brazil plans to return to winning ways against Uruguay

    October 14, 2021

After dropping their first points of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers To Colombia days ago, Brazil will face Uruguay on Friday in a bid to return to winning ways.

While they are still a few points and games away from joining the likes of Germany and Denmark, who have both confirmed qualification at the World Cup, the Samba Boys still have enough point gap between themselves and Argentina in second.

Uruguay have not had a win against Brazil since 2001 and the last match between both sides saw the Samba Boys win 2-0 in the first leg.

Furthermore, Uruguay has never won in Brazil, making the task more difficult. Brazil are also in great form, and have won three of their last four matches.

Their only loss of recent being their 1-0 loss to Argentina in the Copa America making it one loss in 18 matches.

Uruguay in contrast as 4 wins in over ten games.

Argentina took full advantage of Brazil’s slip by beating Uruguay 3-0 which reduce the point gap to 8 points.

While Lionel Messi-inspired Argentina host Peru next, Brazil knows anything but a win against Uruguay will be detrimental to the comfort enjoyed at the top of the table.

The Uruguayans have not won in the October FIFA window after 0-0 draw with Colombia before losing to Argentina.

They also sit in fourth position with 16 points levelled with Ecuador in third but just one more than Colombia in fifth position.

Colombia could leapfrog both Ecuador and Uruguay into third position if they beat the Ecuadorians and the Uruguayan side drop points in Brazil.

In other matches in the CONMEMBOL confederation will see Paraguay travel to Bolivia while Argentina hosts Peru and Chile will face Venezuela.

Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Uruguay sit in the automatic qualification places while Colombia occupy the play off spot.
