Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho also a target for Tottenham Hotspur

Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho also a target for Tottenham Hotspur

    April 10, 2020

Brazilian forward and on-loan Barcelona player Philippe Coutinho is a subject of interest for English Premier League side and London club Tottenham Hotspur.

The midfielder has been on loan at German Clubside, Bayern Munich since August 2019 after he failed to impress in his first few months at the Camp Nou.

In 52 games for Barcelona, he only scored 13 times, and he was subsequently sent on loan to the German Champions with an option to buy.

However, the Bavarians are uninterested in keeping the former Liverpool forward permanently and having been deemed surplus, a move back to the English Premier League seems the likeliest option.

Chelsea has been the front runner in the race to secure the services of the winger and attacking midfielder, albeit the negotiations have been on a loan deal with a permanent buy option at the end of the loan.

Tottenham Hotspur had shown interest since last summer, but the deal fell apart, and this time, the coronavirus pandemic has put a dent to the transfer plans and financial strength of the Spurs.

This is because Chelsea has stated readiness to take the buy option even with an increased transfer fee, which their London rivals may not be able to compete with.

Manchester United are also considered interested in the Brazilian, but the red Devils don’t look likely to convince the player due to the rivalry with his former side Liverpool.

Phillipe Coutinho joined Liverpool in 2013 from Inter Milan and played over 150 games with the team before moving to Barcelona in 2018.

Tottenham Hotspur has been hit by injuries this season with skipper Harry Kane, Lucas Moura, and Son Heung Min, all getting injured at some point in the season.
