Barcelona Defender Hopes for Camp Nou Stay Next Season

    May 22, 2020

Barcelona’s French defender Clement Lenglet has stated his hopes of staying in Barcelona for a long time, as he states that he will fight for his place.

The Frenchman moved to Camp Nou in 2018 from Sevilla in a €35 million (£32m/$42m) deal. He has since gone on to make 74 appearances since joining.

His current contract still has three years, and Frenchman has stated his desire to be at the Camp Nou for a longer period.

“You never really know what the future will be like when you are a football player, but I hope to be at Barcelona next season, yes, It will obviously depend on the transfer window, this is a special period for the clubs, and we’re safe, but I hope to stay,” he stated.

Lenglet’s has been inconsistent in the Barcelona starting 11 so far this season as his spot in the heart of the defense has been taken by Samuel Umtiti since the appointment of Quique Setien as coach of the side.

“There are several reasons for [being dropped]—the arrival of the new coach, Samuel [Umtiti], who was good when he played. I played a lot, too, [Umtiti and I] are pretty much the same. But I didn’t play in the Clasico. It was a little disappointing for me, but it is part of the life of a footballer. I prepare myself well and hope to play regularly.” He was quoted on goal.

Although the La Liga has resumed for training, no exact date has been set for the resumption of matches, but play could resume in June behind closed doors.

Javier Tebas La Liga president has stated of his desire for La Liga to return on the 12th of June. The league has been suspended since March.
