Arteta happy to see Arsenal win with a clean sheet at Everton

    September 18, 2023

Arsenal ended their winless run at Goodison Park against Everton on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over the 12 years who are yet to win in the Premier League this season courtesy of a Leandro Trossard’s 69th-minute strike.

Arsenal’s last victory at Goodison Park was a 5-2 win in 2017, and since then, the Gunners last five games at the ground have ended in four defeats and a draw. However, Everton’s poor start to the season pointed to a possible change in the trend.

Gabriel Martinelli thought he had opened the scoring for Arsenal in the first half, which was eventually ruled offside by the VAR in the seventh minute, three minutes before he was substituted for the eventual goalscorer after a hamstring injury.

Arsenal dominated and toiled but with nothing to show until Trossard’s winner with 21 minutes left, and Arteta couldn’t be more than happy to win at the same ground he once played as an Everton player.

“We talked about it; this is the challenge. For six years, we haven’t won here, and there are a few reasons for it. It’s how you do things and the input you do in every single action. I think we played an incredible game; we kept them quiet and created many, many chances; the first (disallowed) goal, as well, should be allowed. We dominated the game, and we are extremely happy to go away with a win and a clean sheet.” Arteta said.

Also on Sunday, Bournemouth and Chelsea were goalless at Vitality Stadium, and on Monday, one final fixture of the matchday will see Nottingham Forest and Burnley play on Monday night.
