In recent weeks there have been a lot of rumors about the future of current Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
Boss Arteta endorsed Leno at the start of the season and even let go of Emiliano Martinez, who had shown an impressive performance while Leno recovered from an injury.
But the poor results obtained by the Gunners in all competitions and some childish mistakes by Leno in recent games have caused Arteta to no longer have confidence in the German player.
According to some Dutch publications, The Gunners are keen to sign Ajax stopper Andre Onana.
Arsenal’s goalkeeper coach Inaki Cana would have given the go-ahead for the incorporation of the Cameroonian player.
Transfermarket estimates the player’s value at around € 30 million, but Arsenal could sign him for much less as his contract with Ajax ends next summer. Therefore the club would be willing to receive any offer before letting go at zero cost.
Inaki Cana knows Onana well as they worked together in Barcelona when the young Cameroonian took his first steps in European youth divisions. As reported by Football London, Cana is convinced of the player’s talent and would have personally recommended Arteta to sign the player.
The Gunners have faced severe problems at the back after the departure of Emiliano Martinez as they haven’t been able to put together a quality goalkeeper roaster. Alex Runarsson and Mat Ryan were brought to the Emirates to support Leno and be his backup. But both players have failed to live up to expectations.
