Arsenal close in on Porto’s Fabio Vieira

    June 17, 2022

North London club Arsenal are close to securing their third addition of the summer with talks in advanced stage for Portugal and FC Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira.

The Gunners are ready to pay 40 million pounds for the 23-year-old midfielder who has spent his whole career at the Portuguese Club.

The midfielder is yet to secure a cap for the senior national team of Portugal, but he had the highest number of assists in the Portuguese top-flight last season and was recently voted the best player of the UEFA Euro under-21 championships last year.

USA goalkeeper Matt Turner and teenage Brazilian forward Marquinhos are Arsenal’s addition so far to the team this summer.

Arsenal is also linked with Nigerian striker Victor Osihmen who plays for Napoli. Reports indicate that the Gunners are ready to pay around 85 million pounds for the Nigerian striker.

The 23-year-old has been a subject of interest to Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and Premier League teams including Chelsea and Manchester United.

However, the forward who scored four goals in Nigeria’s 10-0 victory over Sao Tome and Principe in the qualification series for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations has said that he would only make a decision after the off-season holidays.

“I know there are many people that would like me in Spain or England, but I don’t think it’s the right time to talk about it now. I don’t know my future. I know anything can happen, but now I just want to go on holiday with my family, clear my head and recharge my batteries.” Osihmen said.

Led by Mikel Arteta, Arsenal finished fifth on the Premier League table, failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

The Gunners will now feature in the UEFA Europa League next season after missing out totally on European football last season.

Furthermore, with the release of the fixtures for the 2020/2023 Premier League season, Arsenal will start their new season against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
