Advantage goes to Barcelona as Sevilla beat Atletico Madrid 1-0

    April 5, 2021

FC Barcelona could move just one point behind Atletico Madrid should the Blaugrana defeat Real Valladolid at the Camp Nou on Monday night.

This became possible after La Liga leaders, Atletico Madrid were defeated 1-0 by Sevilla at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday evening.

The defeat means that, with Barcelona having a game in hand, a win for Ronald Koeman’s men would diminish Atletico’s four-point lead, and put them just a point behind Atletico.

Sevilla should have taken the lead just six minutes into the game but Argentine forward, Lucas Ocampos missed a penalty.

The first half ended goalless but Sevilla were not to be denied a win in the second half when they led and scored the winning goal through defender Marcos Acuna in the 70 minutes.

The win puts Sevilla within just four points of third-place Barcelona as they sit a place behind Ronald Koeman’s side in the fourth position.

However, the Blaugrana could move into the second position with a win on Monday evening against Real Valladolid.

The result also means that Real Madrid are just three points away from Atletico Madrid and the first place position after they also won comfortably against Eibar on Saturday with a 2-0 scoreline at the Alfred de Stefano Stadium.

Zinedine Zidane’s men were twice denied a goal in the first half of the game by the VAR, but they were not to be denied when Marcos Alonso finally got his goal before the half-time break.

Real Madrid then doubled the lead in the second half through Karim Benzema in the 73rd minute.

Other matches saw Granada lose at home 3-0 to Villarreal, Getafe played out a 0-0 draw at Osasuna.

Cadiz defeated Valencia 2-1 while Elche and Betis played a 1-1 draw while Celta Vigo defeated Alaves
