    Spanish squad Euro 2020-21

3 Major Players left out of the Spanish squad

    May 31, 2021

It is fair to say that Spain are well past their golden generation which saw them win two Euros and their first ever World Cup in a four-year period from 2008 to 2012. Over the last few years, nations like France, Germany and Portugal have asserted themselves as the strongest international teams. Most of the players of that generation have retired, but the nation still have some very good players. However, the recent squad for the Euro left a lot to be desired. Here are three players who were shockingly left out of the Spanish squad:

    1) Sergio Ramos: Inarguably the biggest name not be mentioned in the squad is their captain and record appearance maker Sergio Ramos. Sergio Ramos is in his mid 30s and is no longer as fast and physically gifted as he once was, but Ramos is still very key to both his club and countries fortunes. He is not only vital for his defence and leadership skills, but also pops up with a goal every now and then. He is Spain’s eighth highest goal scorer and will be dearly missed this summer.

    2) Lucas Vazquez: Lucas Vasquez is another Real Madrid player who was omitted from the squad. Unlike his teammates Nacho and Asensio, Lucas Vazquez is on the back of a brilliant season. He played in a variety of positions and has the potential of being the perfect utility man. He can play on both the wings, as a wide midfielder or even as a right back. His performances saw him being named in the La Liga team of the season.

    3) Iago Aspas: It is pretty hard to name a Spanish squad without any Real Madrid star, but Luis Enrique managed to leave out one of their most consistent goal scorers. Iago Aspas has been a serial finisher since his return to Celta Vigo after a lean spell at Anfield. He is also a great playmaker which is supported by the fact that he was the assist leader in the recently concluded La Liga campaign. He will be a huge miss to the side and will diminish their chances.
