Jake Paul To Get WBC Ranking If He Wins Fury Bout

The WBC announced that Jake Paul will earn a cruiserweight world ranking if he emerges victorious in his fight against Tommy Fury on February 26 in Saudi Arabia. This would be the first ranking received by the YouTuber-turned-prizefighter, who has an unbeaten record of 6-0 as a professional boxer.

Paul’s previous chance to earn a ranking was canceled after he claimed that Hasim Rahman Jr refused to adhere to the agreed weight limit, leading to the fight’s cancellation. However, the WBC believes that Paul deserves the same opportunities as any other boxer, citing his dedication to the sport, punching power, improved skills, and solid chin.

The 26-year-old is ambitious and targets a world championship belt in the future. Paul has sparred with world champions and done exceptionally well against them. He believes he is slowly improving and getting to grips with the sport’s different aspects. With two to three years until his athletic prime, he is confident that he will become a dominant world champion and knock someone out for the belt.

The fight against Fury represents a significant challenge to Paul in a contest of two undefeated professional boxers. It is his first time facing an opponent from a boxing background after beating other crossover sportsmen. Two previous attempts to fight Fury were unsuccessful, with the boxer withdrawing due to a bacterial infection and a broken rib.

In 2018, Jake won the WBC amateur belt in the undercard fights of the first event his brother, Logan, fought KSI, thereby cementing his association with the WBC. The WBC, in turn, vowed not to tolerate discrimination against anyone and noted that Paul had respect and dedication for the sport.

If Paul wins, he will be ranked in the WBC’s cruiserweight division, which includes boxers such as Ilunga Makabu, Thabiso Mchunu, and Lawrence Okolie, among others. This move could potentially open doors for bigger fights for the social media star as he continues his foray into professional boxing.
