Gervonta Davis vs. Leo Santa Cruz Preview

Gervonta Davis battles Leo Santa Cruz in a thrilling lightweight fight at the Alamodome in San Antonio on October 31, with Davis’ WBA lightweight title and Santa Cruz’s WBA junior lightweight title on the line.

Davis (23-0, 22 KOs) has 22 knockouts in 23 fights and he stopped Yuriorkis Gamboa in the 12th round in his last fight at State Farm Arena in Atlanta on December 28 to win the WBA lightweight title. He has 14 straight knockout wins.

“At the end of the day, the fans are going to win. We’re two elite fighters matching up. This could be one of those fights that you’ll always remember. I’m grateful to be in this position, and I’m ready. I’m thankful to Leo for stepping up and calling me out. He wants to test himself out. It shows me that he has a lot of heart and he wants to fight the best. The winner of this should be up there in the pound-for-pound rankings. The winner takes it all on October 31,” Davis said at a recent virtual press conference.

Santa Cruz (37-1-1, 19 KOs) beat Miguel Flores via unanimous decision at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on November 23. “This is a hard fight. It’s the toughest fight of my career. We’re facing a tough fighter with great skills. I know he’s going to come with everything he has and be at his best,” Santa Cruz said in an interview with Bad Left Hook.
