Tyronn Lue and Stan Van Gundy vie for New Orleans Pelicans job

    October 14, 2020

Stan Van Gundy and Tyronn Lue have both emerged as the top candidates for the vacant New Orleans Pelicans job as the Franchise has scheduled a meeting with the duo.

Stan Van Gundy was once with the Detroit Pistons as a head coach, and he met with officials of the club on Tuesday while the meeting with Tyronn Lue will be held later in the week.

Lue is currently an assistant coach with the LA Clippers but is also touted as the biggest favorite to replace Doc Rivers as the Clippers head coach, with players supporting his potential appointment as head coach.

However, the Pelicans have to fight off competition from the Houston Rockets who, after the departure of Mike D’Antoni as head coach, hasn’t found a replacement yet.

“(LA) Clippers assistant coach Ty Lue’s candidacy for the Rockets’ head-coaching job has gathered significant momentum after a meeting with Houston’s ownership and management Monday,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported.

Houston Rockets former coach Mike D’Antoni left the team after four seasons with the club, and once again, Lue’s name has popped up as a possible successor.

Also, Van Gundy is linked with the Clippers’ vacancy and the Houston Rockets job, and a meeting is scheduled for this week. The 61-year-old has a record of 523-384 over three jobs with the Miami Heat, Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons in over 11 years.

The 2019/2020 NBA season ended with the Los Angeles Lakers winning the NBA Finals title against the Miami Heat after a 4-2 series win.

Many have already praised the NBA bubble that was created to ensure that the season was completed amid the Covid-19 pandemic with strict restrictions on movement in and out of the bubble in Orlando, Florida.

However, it is not Known yet officially for the incoming season, whether it will be in a bubble. Still, reports say that the NBA is considering holding another bubble for the new season with the start date scheduled for January 2021 tentatively.
