Stephen Curry Breaks Ray Allen’s All-Time Three-Point Record in 105-96 Win vs New York Knicks

Stephen Curry officially became the NBA’s three-point king in Tuesday night’s 105-96 Golden State Warriors’ win over the New York Knicks as he is now the all-time leader with 2,974 three-pointers. He entered the game needing just two three’s to break Ray Allen’s previous record.

“I don’t have much to say besides I appreciate everybody that’s had a part in me being who I am on the court, off the court,” Curry said. “This is a career milestone because of everybody I got to suit up with, everyone that set screens for me, everybody that passed me the ball, everybody that believed in our offense and believed in winning and the process, so this is truly special man.

Curry broke the record in his 789th career game. Allen needed 1,300 games for his mark.

“We got a lot more threes, a lot more wins, a lot more stuff to go but I appreciate you making this special because it’s been a long week trying to get over this milestone,” Curry added. “Having Reggie [Miller] and Ray [Allen] here, but none more special than everybody in this locker room. Let’s keep this energy going.”

There was a stoppage in the first quarter following the record-setting moment as the sharp-shooting star was able to take a moment to celebrate with his teammates, and family in the stands.

“Special atmosphere,’’ Curry said. “I knew the Garden would deliver, that’s how this place is. I appreciate so much how much the fans embraced the moment with me and let me get lost in it. Once I took the shot it felt good, looked good, and it felt like we were at home.’’

Curry finished the night with five three-pointers overall; 22 points and leaving the game with 2,977 three’s for his career as of now.

“Steph in the locker room was vintage Steph,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said after the game. “Joyful. Grateful. He talked to the team about how much they mean to him, how much the game means to him, the process. He is who he is. That’s the beauty of Steph. He’s so authentic, so genuine. I thought the night was perfect. It just pretty much encapsulated who he is and his reaction to it was perfect.”

Even the opposing team had to reflect on being a part of a record-breaking night, especially such a shooting record many thought would be impossible. But, the game has changed, and with that, tendencies on the court.

“It was cool,” Knicks’ Julius Randle said. “Great player so it was great to witness history. It’s not like offensive or I take offense to it.”
