NBA Analyst Nick Wright feels Luka Doncic’s historic performance was harder than Kobe Bryant’s 81

    December 29, 2022

Luka Doncic has once again proven the NBA world that he is here to stay and stay for a long period with a sensationally historic performance. The Mavericks talisman scored 60 points and also logged 20 rebounds and 10 assists to force overtime and eventually bag the win for his team against the New York Knicks.

NBA Analyst Nick Wright was in awe of the performance delivered by Doncic. He even missed a free throw intentionally to collect the rebound and then scoring it again to tie the score in the end and force overtime.

This performance of his has history written all over him as he was simply the best player on the court. This helps his cause going forward in raising a claim for the MVP award. People are not going to forget this performance so easily as it is not everyday someone will score a 60-points triple double.

Nick Wright, who is a big Luka Doncic fan, feels that this was one of the greatest individual regular season performances. He feels it is a Mount Rushmore kind of performance where he believes it is equivalent to Kobe Bryant’s 81 points, Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 point performance and many more performances of Michael Jordan.

“I’m just so proud. He works so hard. From the mean streets of inner Slovenia, to put together what was in the regular season, the single-greatest televised performance ever. There’s your Mount Rushmore, regular-season NBA performances: Wilt’s [Chamberlain] 100 (points), Luka’s 60-20-10, Kobe’s (Bryant) 81 and an underrated [Michael] Jordan game,” Wright stated on the big Doncic performance.

Nick Wright stated an outstanding statistic where teams trailing by nine points by 35 or less seconds have never managed to overturn the result. But now with this performance the Mavericks overturned it and forced overtime and eventually won the game. It is simply fantastic when statistics define a performance like this as people get more perspective about it.

“His team’s down nine with 30 seconds left. In the last 20 years, 13,885 teams have been down nine or more with 35 or less seconds left. You know how many of them won? It was zero. Now, it’s one,” Wright added.

Nick Wright feels that it is definitely the best performance in modern NBA without a doubt. He even felt that it was harder than Kobe’s big 81-point performance. He also feels that it more unprecedented and more improbable than Kobe Bryant’s historic performance.

“What Luka did yesterday is the best regular-season performance in modern NBA history. It does not mean it’s the most memorable. It does not mean that people are going to deify it the way they have Kobe’s. But what he did yesterday is harder than Kobe’s 81, more improbable than Kobe’s 81 and more unprecedented than Kobe’s 81. No one’s ever done it,” Wright explained.

This was Luka Doncic’s seventh triple double this season and with the 60-point game he now has raised a very strong claim to win the MVP this season. However for that his team needs to support him a whole lot more as they are 6th in the Western Conference with a 19-16 record.
