NBA Analyst Nick Wright believes Warriors talisman Stephen Curry needs to achieve lot more before he can join the all-time great conversation

    March 30, 2023

Stephen Curry is one of the modern day greats in the NBA. The Golden State Warriors talisman has changed the game with his exceptional ability o hit three pointers at will. However NBA analyst Nick Wright believe sthat Curry has not done enough to be in the all-time great contention especially if he is put gainst the likes of Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, LeBron James and others.

While the four-time champion has changed the game with his long distance shooting but many feel that he needs to ahcive more accolades to be in the same contention with the likes of other greats of the game.

In the recent podcast of ‘First Things First’, Nick Wright shared his thoughts on Stephen Curry and the conversation around him being an all-time great. Wright strongly disagrees as he compares Magic Johnson’s stats with that of Curry. He feels that Curry will have to work harder to get up the order and compete with the other greats.

“Magic Johnson played 12 years in the league before he had to retire due to HIV. In those 12 seasons, he was top-three MVP nine times. He was First Team All-NBA nine times. He made the NBA Finals nine times. So 75 percent of his years, his team was in the Finals, he was considered at the end of the year the best, second-best, or third-best player in the league. He won the MVP award three times. He won five rings,” Wright shared on the podcast.

Wright believes that Curry will have to work harder as he is chasing the likes of Shaquille O’Neal and Hakeem Olajuwon, Kobe Bryant and Larry Bird. Wright feels that once he gets there then he will be chasing the likes of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, LeBron James and Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

“Steph has work to do, but to me what Steph has done is put himself, not in the conversation of the all-time pantheon, but right there. The guys he is chasing now to me are Shaq, Hakeem, Kobe, and Bird. Those are the next guys up before you get to Magic, Kareem, Michael, and LeBron.”

While it is true that Curry has been a metronome in this modern era of NBA, people simply cannot disagree that he falls short in front of Magic Johnson’s greatness when considering the greatest point guard of all time. Johnson ended his career at the 31 and still has one of the best resumes in the NBA.

However Curry at the moment in focused on improving his team’s standings at the end of the regular season. Despite missing some matches, he has been crucial for the Dubs. The star point-guard is averaging 29.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.3 blocks per game this season.

The Warriors are in sixth position in the Western Conference with an average record of 40-37. They are trying to win their remaining regular season matches with the aim of finishing as high as possible for postseason.
