Magic Johnson lauds Victor Wembanyama and compares him to rookie LeBron James

The NBA over the years has seen several talented prospects who have turned into trail blazers of the sport. However it is not often people have claimed a prospect to be as talented as Lebron James. But recently many people including NBA legend Magic Johnson believes that there can be one player who can be compared to LeBron’s potential as a draft player and that player has to be the projected No.1 draft pick of next season, Victor Wembanyama.

The 7-foot-5 French star is surely one of a kind in terms of potential and talent. Wembanyama is a physical specimen and his ability to play in different positions makes him sensational. He is someone who can use his physical presence and can also take a shot from beyond the arc with ultimate precision. He is surely someone who will grab most of the eyeballs on the 2023 Draft day.

Magic Johnson was so impressed with the Frenchman as he pointed out that the league has seen several big man ove the years but they have been mostly one dimensional whereas Wembanyama is someone who uses his physicality tpo attack the rim and also block shots. He can handle the basket and can also handle the ball with some fine passing and basketball IQ.

“Man! I don’t know if we’ve seen a big man who can do the things that he can. Normally, you have one or the other. Either your post game is good or your outside jump shot is good. We’ve never seen a guy who can do both and can handle the basket and can also handle the basketball. He can block shots,” Johnson highlights lauding the Frenchman.

The former Lakers guard shared that the franchise that will get him will hugely benefit from the talent that he is. He even compares the youngster’s talent to LeBron James during his draft day. The fact that Wembanyama can play in different positions and is someone who can affect the play in so many ways make him different that the recent talents or No.1 picks.

“He can affect the game in so many different ways, and whoever gets him: This guy is going to change his franchise forever. The hype is real. He will probably make an impact like LeBron did when he first came into the league (in 2003). This young man is special,” Johnson continued.

While it is great that even a legend like Magic Johnson feels that Victor Wembanyama is comparable to rookie LeBron James ahead of the 2023 Draft day. But this puts more pressure on the youngster who is more hyped than a lot of the players in the NBA currently. A lot of people have said that he is the most talented youngster that they have seen in many years but one thing is performing in different levels in the build up to the draft day but he will have to prove that in the NBA. We have seen several talented players who came with a lot of promise and have struggled to prove their worth when they played in the big league.
