James told me I am playing like my old self – Anthony Davis on his rich form

    November 22, 2022

It has been a roller coaster journey for Anthony Davis in the last few years. Davis hasn’t been at his best as the multiple injuries have hampered his progress. However, in the last few matches, Davis has been at his absolute best.

The big man has come up with consistent performances in the absence of LeBron James, who has been out of action due to a groin injury. Davis dropped 30 points and had 18 rebounds as the Lakers defeated San Antonio Spurs by 123-92 on Sunday night. This was the Lakers’ third consecutive win as they are getting back on track.

Davis has been filling the big shoes of LeBron James in the last few matches and the talisman revealed that James told him he is playing like his old self in recent times.

“Obviously when he’s out, or if I’m out, we take it upon ourselves to kind of, as much as we can, fill that void,” Davis told ESPN.

“We haven’t talked about it, but he did say that I’m playing like my old self, so I’m trying to get back into that rhythm,” Davis said of James’ feedback.

Davis has racked up consistent performances and he has scored 30-points or more in the last three matches to play a key role in the team’s win.

“AD is playing out of his mind,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said. “He’s in a great rhythm.”

The 29-year-old added he is high on confidence and would want to carry the same form in the upcoming matches.

“I think everybody’s confidence is very high, while not getting too high,” Davis told reporters afterward.

“Going into Phoenix to start the trip will be a good test for us. But like I said, I think the guys’ confidence is high on both ends of the ball going into that game. Which, we want to start the road trip off with a W. Then, San Antonio back-to-back. So, it feels good to get three in a row. Now we just got to carry it over into the road and put some more wins together.”

The Lakers now have a 5-10 record and they will next take on Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night.
