I am not going to let this city down, promises New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson after signing a max deal

Ever since the New Orleans Pelicans drafted Zion Williamson, the entire league knew about him and his talent. The NBA experts know what the youngster can achieve if he stays fit and works on his weaknesses. The sheer physicality and explosiveness of Zion makes him one of the young players to watch out for in the league.

But things have not gone in his favour especially with injuries. The youngster has suffered persistent injury problems in the last couple of years. However keeping everything aside, the Pelicans star made a promise to the franchise and it’s fans on the eve of his 22nd birthday. He was locked in and has worked on himself very hard  to prove a point in the upcoming season.

Zion Williamson missed the entirety of last season due to a persistent foot injury and therefore he was often labelled names for his health status and big frame. All of this did affect him and he worked really hard on himself and looks ready for the upcoming season and the challenges that come with it. While the injury spell was a tough time for him and many people thought that he would be traded or  will not be able to secure a max extension, the Pelicans showed their faith in their star player and signed him for a five year max deal. The decision shocked a lot of NBA fans but it also shows how much trust that the Pelicans management have in Zion.

The 22-year-old expressed his gratitude in a press conference where he also promised to not let the Pelicans down ever again for showing the trust in him. “On my birthday last year is when I found out I broke my foot and I was out the whole year. It was a tough year and then, for the Pelicans to come give me this birthday gift, I’m not going to let them down,” Zion shared.

The Pelicans were pretty impressive but they missed Zion Williamson a lot. With him they would have been much stronger and could have scaled more height. However the big man is returning and he does not want to disappoint anyone again. “I’m not going to let this city down. I’m not going to let my family down. And most of all, I’m not going to let myself down. So, thank you,” he concluded.

Under their new coach Willie Green the Pelicans fought adversities and made it to the playoffs and with Zion Williamson returning Green will hope that his side’s strength will grow two folds to help them achieve more in the postseason.
