Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green does not want to change his playing style despite his ejection against the Grizzlies

    May 3, 2022

Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green does not see any problem in his playing style despite the hard calls that he gets from the referees. Green was given a flagrant two foul in his last game as the Golden State Warriors went up against the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 1 of the second round of the playoffs.

The experienced forward, who can also double up as a center was in shock when he received a flagrant two foul call from the referees. Therefore he expressed his disappointment on his podcast. He strongly believes that it is his reputation as a rough player that has led to this call but he does not care about it much as he highlights show this style has won him three Championships and he is reluctant to change it.

“I will never change the way I play basketball. It’s gotten me this far. It’s gotten me 3 championships, 4 All-Stars, Defensive Player of the Year. I’m not going to change now,” Green said after the Warriors won 117-116 in Game 1 against the Grizzlies.

The ejection came in the second quarter of the game when the Memphis Grizzlies were getting on to the groove. However, the Warriors stepped up as Steph Curry and Klay Thompson both got crucial blocks to deny Ja Morant from scoring and sealing the game. It was a great collective effort as Jordan Poole showed his prowess on the other end of the court by scoring 31 points on the night.

The entire NBA community were indecisive about Green’s ejection as people went on to debate even after the match was over. The fans felt that the playoffs are meant to be physical and even the match prior to that which saw the Milwaukee Bucks take on the Boston Celtics got very physical and the referees allowed it. But that was not the case with this match as Green was ejected.

Green should be slightly worried about collecting these flagrant as he paid the price back in the 2016 NBA finals when he had to miss Game 5 due to suspension.

“If I did play Game 5, everything is different. I’ll always hold that view. But what I don’t hold is the regret. I don’t regret it at all . . . Because I don’t regret anything,” Draymond Green said in the context of missing the Game 5 back in the 2016 NBA Finals.
