Former Knicks coach Mike Woodson feels Carmelo Anthony can still more valuable points in the NBA as a bench player

    November 17, 2022

Carmelo Anthony is considered as one of the best scorers in NBA history but his current condition is not great as he is out of contract and waiting for an NBA franchise to call him up. For now he is sitting on the sidelines waiting for another shot at the NBA. Although he is 38, Anthony can really be a good scorer in the rotation as he has a lot to give back to the sport with his experience and skill.

Melo featured in 69 games for the Los Angeles Lakers as he averaged 13.3 points per game with a shooting percentage of 44.1%, including 37.5% from beyond the arc. The 10-time All-Star can be a very good value addition to any team that needs an experienced guy who can run the second team and shoot pretty well.

Recently former New York Knicks coach Mike Woodson shared how if he was a coach of a team in the NBA, Anthony would be in his team without a question. He shared how much the All-Star has given to the league and how relevant he has been for so long. Woodson believes that Anthony can get around 15-20 points every night coming off the bench.

“If I was still coaching in that league, he would be on my team. That’s just how much respect and love I have for Carmelo Anthony and the body of work that he’s put into that league. I don’t think his talent’s the question. Someone might give him a shot to come back. … I still think that he can get you 15-20 points a night if he’s coming off the bench,” Woodson shared on a recent podcast.

The statistics don’t lie all the time and this time coach Woodson is perfectly bang on as Anthony has dropped nearly 15 points per game in the last few seasons despite having a bench role. However there are reports of him not featuring in the NBA this season as some of them suggest that he is heading to Taiwan. The reports have linked him to Tainan GhostHawks as their coach recently updated how they are looking to sign a marquee player and NBA free agent Carmelo Anthony is one of the top picks.

If can be a good thing for Anthony aswell as he can get back in rhythm in Taiwan and before no time, an NBA franchise can come calling looking at his performances abroad. A recent report on Focus Taiwan quoted the head coach of TSG GhostHawks speaking about the former Lakers star. The report read,”At a pregame press conference ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Taoyuan Leopards, coach Liu Meng-chu said the GhostHawks had opened talks with former Los Angeles Laker Anthony’s representatives.”

Wherever he ends up joining, Carmelo Anthony will have to prove his worth once again. It can be a direct deal in the NBA in the coming days or it can be in Taiwan where he show his worth to the NBA franchise before they make up their mind later. Overall it will be interesting to see where Carmelo Anthony ends up.
